A few weeks ago we (Hawaii boys, Kristina, Ellie, a few of Ellie’s friends, Michelle and I) ventured to Marcus’s Macadamia Nut Farm. Marcus is a friend of Ellie’s, and is also studying naturopathy at Southern Cross Uni. A few of us stayed over night and waited till morning to see the farm. The land is owned by his mom, and he has a little cottage all to himself and his friend on the property. We drove along a dirt path for 20 kms in the dark through the thick of the jungle. Where were we following Mitch, our trusty tour guide/the man with direction, to exactly? We were sure he had the right directions, and yes he did! Some chit chatting and serious bonding ended the night, seeing as it was our last night with Scotty Rayne and Cody.
The real adventure was the next morning after the rain had stopped. Marcus’s farm is a magical fairy-land filled with sparkling streams, platypus ponds and delicious fruit and nut trees. The trees make a marvelous covering so only the rich soil is visible on the ground and the hundreds of left-over macadamia nuts (macadamia nut season had jut recently ended). If I ever thought I would see a unicorn or pixie wizzing about, it would definitely be on this land tucked away in one of the great gum trees or sipping from the mineral-rich waterfalls and babbling brooks.
I want to make a delicious lunch and have a picnic along the platypus pond among the enchanted macadamia nut forest. Fairy wings and pretty dresses required.
