Slivie (Kim’s daughter) Ellie and I

stuck car
This weekend was one of the best yet. Ellie and I traveled to this woman’s house for a night, hiked all day the next day, got the car stuck, and still managed to get home in time for a jam sesh punk show. Kim is a woman I am doing a presentation with, and is a lovely woman. We went to one of the best restaurants in town called 20,000 Cows, which is ironically a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. After talking over scrumptuous food, she invited us to stay at her home for a night. She lives is a beautiful cottage in a community out in the bush on the skirts of Lismore. Each house in this community is spaced apart by brush and unique in design. We had a lovely evening discussing life, love, food, activist stories, kids etc.
The next morning Ellie and I took our time getting up and ready for the day, which was followed by backing into the side of a cliff and not being able to start the car. We called NRMA (the equivalent of AAA in America) and had to wait for 1 hour to get there. During our waiting time, we took a walk down the street and ended up talking to a man who was shooting a bow and arrow in his yard. “hey there, here come have a look, I just got this new bow and arrow hand crafted by people in (some country I don’t remember)”. Alex ended up talking our ears off about his house that he built and designed himself. It was absolutely stunning, you could see nature from every side of the house throug windows. it was an eight panneled domelike structure with olden wood shingles, beautiful hard wood and an incredible wrap deck and design. He said you can see the valley through the window of the bathroom while you soak in the bath in the morning. It is completely open and has two stories. It was also built on the side of an incline, so it is built on long wooden poles running up through the house. If I have ever been in fairyland, this was it. The most jaw dropping fantabulous part of Alex is that he is a narnian!!! He is an extra in the new Narnia movie (Narnia 3). I couldn’t believe I met a narnian, he holds a sword and everything. Also, he said Ellie and I can come ride his horses anytime we’d like, which I am totally taking advantage of. Unfortunately I do not have any pics yet of his house. It’s also totally off the grid, and he grows his own food with his partner.
Ellie and I believe the car stopped working so we could meet Alex. ps. it did start working it right after we pushed it out of the side of the cliff which was clogging the exhaust pipe, ha!
The next part of our adventure was hiking in the Border Ranges. The Border Ranges is the oldest and largest rainforest in New South Wales/Australia. The only older one is the Daintree in Cairns. I have never seen such amazing trees. We breathed with and pranced around 2,500 year old beach trees. There were circles of trees you could stand and sit in, and feel a sense of peace and energy. It was amazing and right out of a fairytale. If I were ever to see a unicorn or fairy, this would be the place (maybe more likely if there weren’t trails along them ha). Ellie and I also went on a several hour walk through the rainforest, stopping every few minutes to breath in the moist cool air and press our fingers into the glowing green spongy moss growing on everything. The trees looked like they were giving off light, and reached up to the sky forever. Kim suggesting this place could not have been a better blessing.
