A Wonderful day of flute making

During the Channon markets, I spoke with a man who made bamboo instruments, including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, and didgeridoos.

After a few plan making, plan falling through texting conversations, I made it to Nicholas’s place to make a flute.  And what a wonderful day it was.  From 10am until 7pm we chatted, made instruments, drank quite a few cuppas, and chatted some more.  Nicholas has travelled and lived in many places from Europe to Canada to the US.  Playing music and a natural entrepreneur, and such a beautiful individual.  I’m surprised my jaw didn’t drop every few minutes from the experiences he told me about and the ideas we shared that I have strived to explore for the past few years about love, human existence, ancient texts, nature, systems etc.  He lives out in the bush on a beautiful piece of land in his off-the grid simple home.  Wwoofers, backpackers, friends come to visit his magic instrument making workshop, soon to be ecotourism hot spot.

And at the end of the day, I walked away from a mostly self-made beautiful instrument that I have wanted for the past 5 years or more. Playing in the key of D is new for me, but I am definitely keen to start exploring this new bamboo piece of magic.  Follow the bliss.
