speechless by the sea

situations which sound sketchy are often times the most unpredictable and spontaneous adventures.  Imagine this scenario - You meet (you meaning 3 girls)  meet five bras from Maui the weekend before, and decide to hang with them the next weekend.

so it’s 3 gals going to meet 5 boys who are taking us in the middle of the jungle (really we have no idea where it is) to go for a camping trip, which we were unaware of was a camping trip  until the day before.  I can understand why one would be concerned at this point.

But as I described these treasures earlier, they’re compassionate loving fun individuals who have an amazing amount of solidarity and love for others.  I have and had not any reason not to trust them.

After about 1/2 hour of waiting in Byron for them to pick us up (which was slightly concerning considering the fact that they didn’t have a cell phone and didn’t know where we would be, Byron is a town) we see an old school Toyota pick up truck with huge head lights and zebra stripes, with five dashing fellows in it.  This is becoming a trip already.  Debra the Zebra is her name (in Australia zebra is pronounced in the same way debra is pronounced.), she gets the job done but has trouble getting off her feet and managed to have a flat hoof on our way back to Lismore at the end of the trip.

Traveling out of Byron onto a dirt path through the jungle for a solid 10 minutes to arrive at a sunsetting private beach complete with jungle nearby, a sea of lights from the nearby town, a cove just on the other side and massive crashing waves.  The only thing we could do was hug eachother and enjoy the beautiful spot we had just arrived to and would be staying for the night and next day.

The evening continued with party hang/chills time with all 8 of us around the fire.  Complete with a midnight dip, hunting for firewood, music playing, laughing and stumbling around quite a bit.  Not to mention the combination of the sea right next to us and the sea of stars above.  even a couple shooting ones.

After waking up around 7, 7 of us go for a walk towards the cove on the other side to explore.  We climbed pourus very sharp rock along crashing waves but managed to not cut anyone’s feet.  After each cove, we saw another cove and begin to become entranced by the beauty of the spot and wanting to explore more.  We decide to climb an almost vertical ridge up to the top in order to see the other side.  And what a worthwhile feat it was.  Never in my life have I seen a spot so breathtaking, where our campsite looked like a speck and the bush went on forever.

Adam and I decide to go even further while on top of the ledge, and we go through the bush along a kangaroo trail.  the pictures I have posted can only express the site, although we were sitting on the edge of the cliff, making it a thrill as well.

The afternoon continued with a hammock cuddle-fest where we fit 5 people in one hammock, a record for the boys and myself.  Don’t worry everyone was in a hammock.  As Adam scrunched up next to me, he described this experience best.  Giggles “I have everything, and it’s just so amazing, I have goon, I’m on a beautiful beach, with my best friends and beautiful women”. Goon is the ozzie word for cheap box wine ($9 for 30 drinks!).

After a nap and hang out time in the hammock, no pun intended, we decide it’s time to leave.  Right as we’re getting ready to leave a huge storm blows in and everything is soaked.  Chance and Scotty were going to hitchhike back to Lismore, but now rode in the back of the pickup truck in the middle of the rain.

We’re scuntched in Debra shivering and speechless both by the shear bliss felt by the previous night and day, and also the salty sandy mess in all of our shorts.  Never have I been more sandy in my LIFE, including everything I brought.

TO SUM IT UP

I’m glad I picked up ‘Intro. to creative writing’ this session (quarter)  so I can more eloquently describe experiences like this one.  But I can honestly say that I have never been more content and happy in the last 20 years than on that beach with Justine, Carly and the bras.
